Easy Ways to Save Money on Bills

Here are a few easy tips to help lower your monthly bills!

1. Turn off lights and appliances when you’re not using them.

This is an easy one, but if you get in the habit of doing it regularly you will notice a nice reduction in your electric bill. Turn off lights as you exit the rooms, turn your computer off at night, and only keep the refrigerator door open to get the food (not when you’re deciding what to get). I even unplug appliances and devices (like the toaster and my cell phone charger) when aren’t in use to help save a bit there too because even though the appliances aren’t on they’re still drawing small amounts of energy if they’re plugged into the socket - which adds up.

2. Use CFL energy-saving light bulbs

The Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL) bulbs save energy and they last longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs. These are great for saving energy, promoting a new greener environment, and saving money on your electric bill as well.

3. Check for the leaks from time to time

If you’ve got a water bill, you’ve got check to ensure that you don’t have any water leaks that are increasing an unnecessary elevation in your bill. Most people don’t know that even a few drops everyday from leaking pipes can cause your water bill to go up.

4. Consider new telephone service alternatives

Since people have become so dependent on their cell phones, they’ve also realized that having a landline home phone may be an added and unnecessary expense. If you absolutely feel you need a home phone, the great thing is new technological opportunities have created more lower cost options, such VOIP services like Vonage and Magic Jack.

5. Call your cable company to discuss your options

During these tough economic times, many people have decided that cable television is a luxury and decided to cancel their service. I think that the cable companies got wise to this because now many of them will offer to lower your bill if you simply call them and tell them that you’re considering canceling your service because of a tight money situation. How cool is that?

I hope you found these tips useful. Start saving on your bills today!
